The year 2073 a journalist called Eric Seven is sent by his author a place called Blessed Island because there are
rumours that the sun never sets and the people live forever!

Eric and Merle are the main characters who in another life were king and Queen who were very much in love and
were parted in horrific circumstances. This is the story of their search for each other spanning several centuries. A very unusual book with a pagan and gothic element to the story and written in seven sections.

This is the latest book in the Edgar the Raven series and in my opinion the funniest book so far.

Edgar is a very bored Raven because he is longing for something to happen; so a trip to the circus and a Fortune Teller called Madame Zora, who comes to stay at Castle Otherhand, make events take an unexpected turn!

I love this book with all it's odd ball characters, especially Valevine who is head of the household and an inventor. Edgar's forays into the larder when cook was not looking is hilarious.

Wow what can I say! This is absolutely mesmerising. Marcus Sedgwick has written a brilliant gothic thriller for the 12+ age group that is quite thought provoking to say the least. It is also - being a gothic thriller quite spooky!

His subject matter this time is - is there life after death and how do we find out! People in the 18th Century have some very innovative ideas in how to get answers to their questions! And Ferelith soon draws Rebecca into her own quest and schemes to find out.

Ghosts and Gadgets audio book

Review

Marcus Sedgwick's audio book 'Ghosts and Gadgets' as read by Martin Jarvis is brilliant. He brings alive the characters of the story in a riveting way - especially the narrator Edgar the raven. I found myself laughing out loud many a time at the antics of the family as they try to outwit the obnoxious Captain Spookini - a so called ghost hunter. They really do get themselves into quite a pickle to say the least. Great fun for both child and adult.

Masterful story writing coupled with a superlative rendition by Martin Jarvis - defintely one to recommend.

I like the way the author developes the plot, moving from the present to the past with the two stories running parallel and introducing new chanracters as the plot enfolds.

The colt revolver is the crux of the book, about a father who loves his son but is looking into the future. The build up of tension between Wolfie and Sig when Wolfie demands his 'share' is a fine piece of psychological writing.

I enjoyed this book tremendously, well written, with great depth and feeling with an exciting finale. Highly recommended.

Flood and Fang is a brilliant story by Marcus Sedgwick that is brought to life by the excellent rendition by Martin Jarvis. He had me hooked right from the first sentence with this quite a gothic story about the Otherhand family at the Otherhand Castle and a certain mystery creature and a flood that fills the house!
