Every Which Way But Dead

This is not a children's read with the story line getting very dark at times. But, if you like a read that drags you in and keeps you riveted waiting to find out what happens next this is it. Rachel Morgan the lead is one of the most exciting characters I have read about in years. This book has everything, all your favourite supernatural character types, also a good spattering of crime and romance, with some of the cheekiest jokes to make you smile. ..read more

Fourth book in the Rachel Morgan saga, and the most enthralling to date. The action starts from the first chapter and just keeps going. The story keeps you guessing as to how things will go, making you want to read more. You cant get away from the fact that Kim Harrison has a passion for this amazing mix of the genre's writing a book that would be enjoyed by lots of people. People have referred to the Rachel Morgan series of books as ‘Chicklit'. I must disagree, this book could be read by all, giving plenty of entertainment to male and female readers. The romantic theme is not over played, and the almost constant activity keeps the reader thoroughly gripped, almost forcing you to turn the page to find out what will happens next. The lead character is a sexy bounty hunting witch, who seems not to understand the simple life. From her choice of housemate or boyfriend, to her work partners or clients. ..read more

I have read this book once previously, but found that on reading it again the depth of thought put into the characters was astounding. This book could stand well against crime drama books, if you were to ignore the interlanders. The author has created an alternative future that gives the reader the enough normality that you end up thinking that the Interlanders are entirely real. The lead character is a strong young woman and the interactions between her and the other characters allows for some very witty comments.

The follow up to Dead witch walking, and the plot thickens and develops, new characters are added and in total this is, I think, an improvement on the first.

Rachel is still annoyingly inept, and there are somewhat simplistic exits from seemingly inescapable life threatening situations, but the interaction between the characters is excellent.

Love the demon, and the exploration of the finer points of inter-species living, for example living with a live vampire as opposed to a dead one.

Look forward to the next !

This is the first in a new fantasy thriller series featuring Rachel Morgan, a witch operating with the Inderland Runner Services, catching criminals in modern Cincinnati. A genetically engineered virus has decimated the human population, and witches, vampires, pixies and other fantasy races have surfaced as citizens.

The character of Rachel comes fully formed, her history emerging through the story, along with her confederates, Ivy the vampire and Jenks the pixie.

Do read this series in order, as the development of the characters and situations are so good.

This is the fourth in Rachel's adventures and this time its werewolves who are the problem, plus the ongoing emotional balances between her friends and lovers, and the threats from the after-life.

Kim Harrison is to be applauded I think for keeping the characters becoming more interesting with each book - more facts from their various pasts explain their motivation, and stereotypes are avoided.

How many more can there be - I hope quite a few.

Rachel Morgan, witch and crime runner, continues her adventures, and life just gets more complicated. This is an excellent series, but do read in order, otherwise you will miss a lot of the nuances.

More new characters, and a new look at some of the original ones, keeps the interest alive, and the plot as usual rolls on apace. This time Rachel is trying to avoid becoming the demon's familiar and, with her by now usual last minute twist, saves an elf who had been in his power for the last thousand years. Her personal life remains complex and increasingly explicit.

Set in the near future the book revolves around the adventures of a Rachel Morgan who is a officer of the law turned private eye, and a witch. This book will pull you into the strange world of the interlanders who have been always around, but until recently have not been noticable.

The interlanders are all the favorite horror fiction characters of Witches, Warewolves, Vampires and Demons. Rachel is trying to survive quiting the law office, avoiding tension with her new partner and prove the city's most prominent citizen is not squeeky clean.
