The Complete Guide to Aspergere's Syndrome - review 2

Author
Tony Attwood
Genre
Review

This is a very informative read which is aimed at not only the professionals, but also the parents, teachers and family members of those people suffering from Aspergers Syndrome. It will also serve as a comfort for those people who have either been diagnosed with AS or have an inkling that they might be on the spectrum as it details not only the symptoms but also coping mechanisms.

Personally speaking, this was a comfort to me because I feel that I am on the spectrum somewhere and it's enough for me, now, to understand that.

The Celestine Prophecy

Author
James Redfield
Genre
Review

After reading this for the second time I have to say that this book spoke volumes to me. I understood it the first time, and could relate to what it was telling me, but this time it resonated at such a level that it really helped me make sense of what had been happening to me recently.
The story itself is a little too contrived for my liking, but as a parable it works perfectly - with each insight being given ample explanation and examples so the individual can relate it into their own lives.

Heart Shaped Box

From a simple premise comes the creepiest and most unnerving read I've had in a long time. Neil Gaiman was right when he said that Heart Shaped Box is the most assured debut since Clive Barkers The Damnation Game.

I must admit I watched the film before I read the book, so I wasn't able to approach it with fresh eyes and it was difficult not to picture Eamon Owens as Francie Brady (just shows how spot on the casting was on the film!).

20th Century Ghosts vol 2 - audio book

Author
Joe Hill
Genre
Review

This second collection is one of the best short story cd's I've heard in a long time, and reminds me of Clive Barkers Books of Blood for pure originality and awesomeness. Each story had a different feel, a different nuance -though not all of them could be called horror, some were more poignant than others- but all were brilliant and inspiring. There were times when I was really creeped out by the Hill's ideas (and also a little peeved, because I often wished that I'd thought of them first...)

They must understand their unique gifts and find out how best to use their powers -whether for their own gain or to help others.

The Naming of the Beasts

Author
Mike Carey
Genre
Review

The culmination of the Rafi Ditko storyline -all the Felix Castor novels have been leading to this point.

Normally when a series of novels take this long to culminate it's possible for them to run out of steam, or the author to run out of idea's to keep the pace up. Thankfully, The Naming Of The Beasts is guilty of neither of these. From the cliffhanger of the previous novel, "Thicker Than Water" this novel never looses its roller-coaster like pace, and for once the reader even wonders whether Felix Castor is going to make it out alive!

Review

Yet again, Joe Hill emerges triumphant with another grand horror yarn. The most original premise: Ig Perrish wakes up with two horns growing out of his head and can make people tell him their deepest darkest secrets; which is just as well because he's been framed for the murder of his ex-girlfriend!
