Emily GravettEmily Gravett 2008 talking about all her booksInterviewON July 31st 2008 my daughter Genevieve very kindly drove me to me to Brighton to meet author and artist Emily Gravett and chat with her about her extraordinary children's books and her artwork in them. I very much enjoyed meeting her and discovering her influences for both the artistic side and the very simple but effective words that compliment the drawings. ![]()

Orange Pear Apple Bear
ReviewWhat can I say about this book that hasn't been said about Emily Gravett's other ones, she really is quite phenomenal, but the beauty of Orange Pear Apple Bear is it pure simplicity. This time the colours are orange and green of various hues and how does she make such simple words so exciting - but she does. Again a book to highly recommend. ![]()

Monkey and Me
ReviewThis is very definitely a shout out aloud book that carries on over and above what the book says in the huge drawings. This is one that encourages activity with the parent or carer - certainly my daughter Gen who is a nanny loved it and could see it's potential with children. Another winner from award winning Emily Gravett. ![]()

The Odd Egg
ReviewEmily Gravett is a very talented artist with a playful twist, her colours are beautifully produced making the simply story line come to life. I love the way some of the pages are very short to illustrate the story and the twist at the end made me chuckle. A book to recommend for any child to read. ![]()

Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears
ReviewThere is so much going on in this book that will keep a child busy for hours, but it is also a book that a parent can go through and have the opportunity to talk about any fears the child may have. There are bits nibbled out of the pages, a map to look at, flaps to lift up - again the art work is incredible - I really enjoyed reading Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears. Emily Gravett richly deserves winning the Kate Greenaway Medal for this book. ![]()

Meerkat Mail
ReviewBeing a fan of Meerkat Manor on TV I loved this book and Sunny's journey meeting many of his relatives! The postcards are fun to read and will make the adult chuckle with the humour of it all. Children will enjoy lifting up the postcards to se what Sunny thinks of his extended family! Artwork again fantastic and so descriptive - I again highly recommend this book. ![]()

Wolves
ReviewWolves is Emily Gravett's first book which brings to the world her wonderful artwork - in this book we see the quirkiness of her style and humour; wolves looking like trees or bushes, but does rabbit escape! There are two endings to this story but as ever simplicity that tells all. Another book to highly recommend ![]()

Spells
ReviewI absolutely fell in love with this very glamorous looking book where a frog finds a book of Spells - as with some of Emily Gravett's books there again is a twist in the story at the end. The art work is sumptuous to say the least and the effect of half the pages being cut in half lets the reader play around with the different spells to create the right one. A book that would keep any child happy and I think the adults will be impressed too. ![]()
