Mad Dogs and an Englishwoman is the fifth book that I've read of Polly Evans and every time she has me riveted to the pages with her journey through what ever country she is in. This time it is in the Yukon Territory of the far north west of Canada - the people she meets and places she goes to, but also the history that goes with the places.

Introduction

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Polly Evans again and hearing about her latest adventures. This time our parapatetic traveller is talking about her trip to the Yukon Territory in Canada's far north west. As ever she has much to tell and always throws in lots of historical detail for all the places she visited.

As Polly found out, learning the art of how to mush a team of sled dogs is not all it would seem, and on top of that the freezing cold does leave a lot to be desired. On her journey she does meet some fascinating people and always leaves me wanting to hear more of her tales.

Introduction

Polly Evans is a wonderful quirky travelling explorer whose books make you want to learn the history of the country she is writing about. It doesn't matter whether she's riding on bikes in New Zealand or horses in South America her experiences are great fun to read and can have you laughing out loud. But on the historical side - did you know that Eva Peron's body had quite a journey through several countries before her final resting place in Spain!

Her books are full of fascintaing insights into the country she is travelling in and it's people. I highly recommend anyone of her four books.

Review

This is the third book of Polly Evan's that I have read and in this one she definitely does the journey by conventional transport. All four of her books are amazing, she knows so much about the history of the places that she visits and helps to explain where and what she sees in words as there are no picutes in her books. This seems a shame because some of the places that she visits would benefit from pictures to show why she found them so powerul and beautiful.
