Introduction

On Monday June 21st I went with my husband and editer David and my daughter and amateur photographer Genevieve to do an interview with Peter James at his house deep in the South Downs in Sussex on his book Dead Like You. It was lovely to see him and his 3 dogs again and to talk not just about the story but also about Yac his autistic character in Dead Like You as two year ago in 2008 I had asked Peter to put in an autistic cop! Instead we got Yac!

Perfect Murder - a quick read, it most certainly was! I thoroughly enjoyed this well crafted stand alone, very short crime novel by Peter James. It has a wonderful twist at the end - but read it carefully because you may miss it - the beginning is the important bit!

Highly recommend - it only takes an hour to read!

I really love Peter James' books, he is one of my favourite authors and find it very pleasing when I read his thrillers as Brighton is my local hunting ground. Once again, his knowledge of the Brighton Police force and their procedures is excellent - I attended a book event with Peter a couple of years ago and know that he shadows the local Police very closely when researching his books and you can tell! Although I didn't want to put the book down - I didn't want to finish it either because I was enjoying the story so much!

Dead Like You is a real page turner I have to say - dealing with a rapist/s murderer who takes top quality shoes from his victims. Peter shows us through the story what rape victims go thorugh and how it effects their lives for ever more - unlike a buglary, which in time fades - rape never does.

I found it fascinating to go back through time to when Roy Grace was married to Sandy and what their relationship was like in comparison to how he is with Cleo now.

The Perfect Murder? Not quite, but a perfect read nonetheless - a really nice way to while away half-an-hour. This is a light-hearted, almost Ealing-esque murder mystery which combines the supernatural elements that infused Peters early novels.

Both Victor and Kamila are well rounded and realised with their quirks and idiosyncrasies, and the break up of their marriage is nicely handled highlighting the way they both fall in and out of love. In the beginning their mutual attraction is quite touching before the irony seeps in and those idiosyncrasies end up damning them both.

Peter James is an enigma. Not only is he a very successful BIG TIME Hollywood movie producer, he's also written a very successful series of horror novels (10 in total) and was often touted as the next James Herbert. Then, out of the blue, he changed direction completely. BANG!!! Dead Simple comes out -one of the best crime thrillers in recent years, with a killer hook and a razor sharp writing style.

It is a long time since I have read a Peter James book and to come back into his work with  'Dead Man's Footsteps' was a joy. Set at the time of  the 9/11 catastrophy of the twin towers and 2007, we bounce between 3 countries - England, America and Australia - as Peter takes us on a magical mystery tour of who is who and how many names and experiences can our few protagonists go through.

This is another story set in and around Brighton but has a different twist where a person is abducted and then turned up in a cornfield - headless and so the hunt is on for the perpetrators.

Then another girl and a couple go missing over a period of a few days and thats when DS Grace gets told someone will be joining his team; not someone he wants within his team or taking over his team. But as usual there is another twist in the story, and we then find that there is more to the computor analysis centre in the police station, but you need to read it to find out what happens.
