I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to read a murder-thriller type novel that is set in the UK rather than the USA. I felt this made the characters a little more relatable, and it was nice to have reference to places that you know in the storyline.

Red Queen

Author
Philippa Gregory
Genre
Review

Having profiled the Yorkist Queen, Elizabeth Woodville, in the War of the Roses, Philippa Gregory turns her attention to the Lancastrians and their Queen Margaret Beaufort.

Unfortunately not as good as the White Queen, but may be because the subject matter is not as attractive, apparently in looks or personality, nor as interesting. Started and ended well but got a little boring in the middle.

It's Your Time

Joel Osteen
Genre
Review

I've been a fan of Joel Osteen for about 4 or 5 years now, having come across this quietly spoken preacher on one of Sky's God channels. I was impressed by the fact that he uses common sense in his TV broadcasts and internet Daily Word that go to millions of people around the world, and doesn't bible bash at you. And so it is with all of his books.

Joel Osteen

Review

I first came across Joel Osteen on one of the God channels on Sky satellite tv and was very drawn to his easy anecdotal style of preaching, but not only that he was quiet! Unheard of for an American tv preacher - he didn't shout or scream at the viewer and talked a lot of good sense. His book 'Your Best Life Now' is in the same style of presentation as his weekly shows on tv.

Bernard Knight, or to give him his correct title, Professor Bernard Knight, CBE, was a pathologist to the Home office until 1980 when he was appointed Professor of Forensic Pathology at the University of Wales College of Medicine, 1980. He has written the extremely successful Crowner John series of medieval mysteries, of which there are now twelve books, His character Crowner John will certainly become one of my favourite characters in such medieval mysteries.

A Darkness Forged in Fire

Chris Evans

Review

This has all the elements one could hope for in a fantasy novel - elves, dwarves, monsters, an evil powerful entity and a good one, magic and the search for magical artifacts, a flawed hero Konowa Swift Dragon, and lots of bad guys - plus wild animal pets and interestingly, bonding with trees, but somehow it didn't quite work for me which is a great shame.

Review

Indian Summer is the sort of history book that every school should have in their libraries. Alex Von Tunzelmann has made the history of India during the time independence and partition absolutely fascinating. Her anecdotes about the main players during this time made me want to find out more on India, it's heritage, myths, legends, culture and religions that make it the vibrant place it is.

Having read it once it enticed me to read it again at a much slower place just to take in the colour and atmosphere of such momentous events.

Brilliant book not what I expected at all. This is a timeless story of two women who love to hate each other but do respect each other in a funny kind of way. Clem Smith as a young girl gives birth to her son Eiljah out of wedlock, many have been thrown out of their own homes for this but not Clem. Her mother and father stand by her and support her all the way.

From there extends a fab story of a gypsy family and the woes and troubles that they get involved with over two generations.

A beautiful children's book written about two dogs that fall in love in the park. Posh Pooch Esme Lamour meets downtown Samuel Bloom.

As with all love stories nothing runs smoothly for these doggie frinds but wait and see the story does have a happy ending .

The book is wonderfully written in lines that rhyme and the pictures are great because they are easy to comprehend by a young child, between the posh and the flats around our cities, where the wealthy and the poor don't mix!!
