In Road Closed, Leigh Russell has definitely upped the anti - it is a very lively plot that gets DI Geraldine Steel into quite a pickle. But it also shows that she can be quite naively rebellious to say the least, in order to get the murderer.

Once again the short chapters make this book a real page turner - and if I thought Cut Short was a brilliant debut, this book goes to a whole new level, which I enjoyed hugely.

Definitely one to recommend for all crime fiction fans.

Review

Cut Short is the debut crime novel by Leigh Russell.

The story is about a serial killer and the police investigation. I like the character of D.I.Gerealdine Steele because I could identify with her - she comes across as a hard working humane person who is very much in tune with the people around her.

Introduction

It was with great pleasure that I met up with school teacher Leigh Russell at St George's Hotel, to chat with her about her two books Cut Short and Road Closed. We sat in a very snug cubby hole in the hotel's Height's Bar and at the end of the interview I managed to do a two minute video of Leigh - this will be posted later on.

When I started reading Cut Short by Leigh Russell it reminded me alot of when I read Ian Rankin's 'Wolfman' now called 'Tooth and Nail' way back in 1992! Is DI Geraldine Steel the new Rebus - it could be because the atmosphere of the book is very similar, although Geraldine is a much lighter character as opposed to the brooding Rebus.

This is a brilliant debut book with short chapters that help to make the flow of the story move at a very fast pace.

A new kid on the block? Definitely, and one I feel we're going to see grow and grow. Recommended.
