Natasha Narayan in my eyes can do no wrong - she is simply put - a brilliant writer who draws us into her story from the word go.

I love the way in which she invokes a strong and very colourful Victorian era with her cast of characters. She never disappoints and I find all her books real page turners making you want to look out for Kit Salter and her friends on what ever adventures and country they land up in - in this care India. Natasha brings in all the colour and culture of the period with great aplomb.

High adventure of the very best sort - this time Kit Salter, her friends and Aunt Hilda are in China on a quest for the Book of Bones. Again we have the Baker Brothers creating mayhem and leading everyone up and down the mountain path, and in this case quite literally.

What is different in this story is that we see Kit struggling with illness - either from a bug or a terrible evil from the Darkness in Shambala. Can she survive and recover from it?

Again adventures taking in the local culture of the period with in some cases death defying action!

Review

This is the first Kit Salter adventure of what I hope will be many. What a wonderful way to show us a very colourful slice of Victorian life with all its cultural and social history.

I really enjoyed seeing how Kit got her gang together in trying to solve how, why and who stole the Mummy. This really is a great rollicking adventure full of mayhem, do and dare as well as plenty of laughs. Natasha Narayan has certainly done her historical research well which has made for a well rounded story that even adults will enjoy reading.

Highly recommended.
