Synopsis

What do you believe? And why is this important? According to Pastor Joel Osteen, it's because we will become what we believe. Our beliefs will prove either a barrier or vehicle as we strive to go higher, rise above our obstacles, and to live in health, abundance, and victory. In YOUR BEST LIFE NOW Osteen says, "I am what I am today because of what I believed about myself yesterday. And I will be tomorrow what I'm believing about myself right now. God sees us as more than conquerors, able to fulfill our destiny. We need to see ourselves through the eyes of our Creator." He says that our self-image should mirror exactly what God says about us, not what we feel or think. And he encourages readers to be people of faith, for if you can see the invisible, God will do the impossible.

Review

I first came across Joel Osteen on one of the God channels on Sky satellite tv and was very drawn to his easy anecdotal style of preaching, but not only that he was quiet! Unheard of for an American tv preacher - he didn't shout or scream at the viewer and talked a lot of good sense. His book 'Your Best Life Now' is in the same style of presentation as his weekly shows on tv.

In the book he breaks down the subject matter into seven areas that we need to look at. I have to say some are much easier than others to read - if he touches a raw nerve then that chapter will take a little longer to work through - and like Michael Flatley the Irish clog dancer who has made mega millions out of believing in himslef, Joel also feels it really is all in the mind - you can become what you believe in.

Here Joel has broken the areas he's talking about into the folowing chapters:

1. Enlarge your vision
2. Develop a healthy self-image
3. Discover the power of your thoughts and words
4. Let go of the past
5. Find strength through adversity
6. Live to give
7. Choose to be happy

I'm very impressed with this book and reread it once a year to see how far I've come along - I find that Joel Osteen's writings very much help to clarify the mind in a very gentle way and is one that I am very happy to recommend to everyone.
