The Wood Boy is an adaptation of the short story by fantasy master Raymond E. Feist that first appeared in the Legends anthology (edited by Robert Silverberg) and offers a unique side story to the events depicted in his beloved book, Magician. The Wood Boy is an exciting story that offers readers an excellent introduction to Feist's Riftwar Saga. The Burning Man was written by world-renowned science fiction and fantasy author Tad Williams (Otherland) and originally appeared as a short story in the anthology Legends as well. A ghostly coming of age tale rendered in a beautiful, ethereal style by popular comic book artist Brett Booth (Thundercats: Dogs of War), The Burning Man is an exciting and thought-provoking story about life and death, love and fear, and innocence and betrayal.
Review
I was gripped by the second page, having the ending at the begining, was to my mind a stroke of genius. It is the tale of Dirk, who we first meet arriving at the camp, his entrance made me want to know why? Where from? We hear his tale, a wonderful story, set on the world of Midkemia, it gives us a glimpse of the life that continues after the Tsuranni, a race from the world of Kelewan, enslave the people of Lord Paul of White Hills estate. It tells us of dangers from those we know, can be far greater than those we do not.
This wonderful told tale, can be read alone or as part of 'The Riftwar Saga'.
Found in 'Legends', a compilation of short stories, put together by Robert Silverberg.
I'm a Feist fan, so I was drawn to his tale first, but I do intend to read the other stories, and perhaps Vicky will invite me to review them as well. But for now the dandelions are calling, gardening time is here again.
