Synopsis

Richard is a budding young actor with heaps of talent, but his leukaemia makes him tired and frustrated and prevents him from rehearsing properly... Luckily the Medikidz, a disparate group of super-powered action-heroes with attitude, are on hand to help Richard get to grips with what's going on! Only Pump, Chi, Skinderella, Gastro, Axon and trusty robot Abacus can help Richard fully understand leukaemia... When they have stopped fighting over who has stolen the chocolate chips out of the ice cream that is! These unique superheroes bring expert medical knowledge and an intricate guide around Mediland (a distant planet shaped just like the human body!) to this fun-filled brand of edu-tainment, which is always banter-driven and never sugar-sweet! Join Richard on his tour of the human body as he comes to learn all about leukaemia and how to deal with it. Meet some chatty platelets and aggressive red blood cells along the way and join in with the songs in this musical journey. Even leukaemia won t stop Richard from being a stage performer! The Medikidz range of graphic novels explains childhood illness in a way that is imaginative, engaging and easy to understand. Developed by a team of doctors, Medikidz does not try to 'sugarcoat' serious problems. Rather, the information provided empowers children with the knowledge they need to take ownership of their disease, providing them with skills for self-management, while taking away their fear of the unknown.

Review

Having Leukaemia is frightening especially if you are a child, but here everything is explained in a clear picture story. There is an immense amount of detailed information that has to be given in an easily understandable way, and Medikidz are brilliant at it.

I highly recommend this educational comic book for both children and adults.
