Synopsis
Max, who fancies himself as a bit of a secret agent, is in the middle of a full scale stand-off with his friends when he's struck down with his first asthma attack. Join Max as the Medikidz take him on a whistle-stop tour of Mediland a distant planet whose geography and inhabitants bear a striking similarity to the intricacies of human anatomy and physiology. Along the way he'll traverse the lungs, meet the army defending his body against foreign invaders and find out what to do when he gets his next attack. The Medikidz range of graphic novels explains childhood illness in a way that is imaginative, engaging and easy to understand. Developed by a team of doctors, Medikidz does not try to 'sugarcoat' serious problems. Rather, the information provided empowers children with the knowledge they need to take ownership of their disease, providing them with skills for selfmanagement, while taking away their fear of the unknown.

I found it utterly fascinating to read What's Up With Max, because the Medikidz take him up into the lung part of Mediland and show him everything to do with his asthma.
I learned a great deal from reading this book in how peope can get asthma - how to work with it and the drugs that can help the person. Sometimes parents and even the child don't realise that because the chest is not bubbling with a chest infection that something is wrong. The child struggles and nobody takes notice of what's happening.
This is a superlative book that will not only empower the child, but will help the adult to understand what their child goes through when they have an asthma attack and how to cope with it.
Again a brilliant book that I more than highly recommend.
