In the land of Odyssia, former hero Quest unwillingly becomes the bodyguard to Prince Nestor, a young smart-alec who knows the whereabouts of a mystic dagger that is key to ultimate power. Together, they'll face creatures, bounty hunters and other evils vying for the weapon. In the meantime, they'll have to deal with each other.
Review
Keith Giffen states on the back cover that "Quest" is a cross between Conan the Barbarian and Calvin & Hobbes... that's spot on and I wish I had said it first! This is a manic read - hyperkinetic action leaping off every page, grand splashes of colour and blobs of mucous splattering everywhere (this is a book for kids after all...) The story pours out at such a pace that the books over before you even know you've read anything and you're left wanting more!
It's interesting that Keith Giffen has supplied a quote on the book because in many ways I see a similarity between his artwork and J T Kruse - Kruse's artwork is a cross between Keith Giffen; Sam Keith and Bill Watterson. It's sometimes a little difficult to tell what's happening in some of the panels due to the enthusiastic bursts of energy - but that's easily forgivable.
This is a sharply written, funny and energetic read - kids will love it (I know I did.). There's more than enough story to keep anyone wanting more -and there's another volume to look forward to.... This is great for anyone loving mayhem; fantasy and snot... plenty of snot and laughter... (hey that's a great name for a book...!) so, what are you waiting for?
