Synopsis

Fifteen-year-old Seth Waller is devastated when his mother is diagnosed with a rare, early-onset form of Alzheimer's. When he was growing up, his mother always brushed aside questions about her past and family, and Seth realises that soon he will lose his chance to find out any more. He decides to uncover the truth about her life, their family history and the condition, and what he discovers is more surprising than he ever could have imagined. Inspired partly by Stefan Merrill Block's own family history, "The Story of Forgetting" is a moving and inspiring novel of love, loss, hope and genetic destiny.

Review

This book explores the effect that ALZHEIMERS has on family life with 15 year old SETH who is on a journey to find out if the disease is inherited.

This book is very topical because so many peole are being diagnosed with DEMENTIA now, but we still have a long way to go to make things easier for families, who have to look after ther families around the clock. This isolation and emotional strain must be appalling - so we must hope that Science will be able to isolate the gene and perhaps find a cure.

The author has written a very emotional book, full of undewrstanding and compassion with a well thought out plot where he addresses some very serious issues. This story will remain with me for a very long time.

Highly recommended.
