Synopsis

In an effort to rejuvenate his flagging career, crime novelist Ethelred Tressider decides to set his new book in Egypt and embarks on a ‘research trip' with his literary agent, Elsie Thirkettle, in tow. No sooner has their cruise on the Nile begun, however, than an attempt is made on Ethelred's life.

When the boat's engine explodes and a passenger is found bloodily murdered, suspicion falls on everyone aboard - including a third-rate private eye, two individuals who may or may not be undercover police, and Ethelred himself. As the boat drifts out of control, though, it seems that events are being controlled by a party far more radical than anyone could have guessed.

Herring on the Nile is an ingenious mystery, and a darkly funny tribute to Agatha Christie and the golden age of crime fiction.

Review

The latest book in The Red Herring series with Elsie Thirkettle who is a literary and Ethelred Trossider a third rate crime writer.

Another very funny book written with tremendous flair, with all the ingredients for a good murder story with espionage and terrorists thrown in.

Ethelred is trying to find some new ideas for his latest book to boost up his flagging sales, so he and Elsie take a trip down the Nile on a paddle steamer and explore local sites on the way for some inspiration.

I have enjoyed all the books written by LC Tyler which get better all the time. The plots are so clever and the style of writing so humerous, with my favourite part in this book being the chapters with the interview questions! Ethelred's answers are never quite what Elsie would expect because basically he always told the truth!!

A very funny book that was a pure joy to read. Highly Recommended.
