Synopsis

When down-at-heel lawyer Mickey Haller gets the news that his old colleague Jerry Vincent has died, he also gets an unexpected windfall. Jerry had left instructions that Mickey should inherit all of his clients - putting Mickey's stalled career back on track at a stroke. Not only that, but Vincent was about to go to bat for Walter Elliott, the Hollywood mogul accused of brutally slaying his wife and her lover, in a trial that promises big fees and an even bigger place in the media spotlight. If Mickey could find the magic bullet and win that one against the odds, he'd really be back in the big leagues. The only problem is that Vincent was murdered, shot at close range in his office garage. And the detective handling the case - a certain Harry Bosch - is convinced the killer must be one of Vincent's clients. Suddenly Jerry Vincent's legacy is beginning to look more like a poisoned chalice, and Mickey is faced with the biggest challenge of his career: how to successfully defend a client who might just be planning to murder him.

Review

Michael Connelly is one of the most brilliant crime writers I know. His latest book The Brass Verdict, will have you guessing from the start until the outcome at the end.

Michael is an exceptional author because, it does not matter where he sets his crime thrillers, they just have you hanging on the edge of your seat. This lastest one involving Mickey Haller who has been out of the law processing system for over two years due to injury, has now arrived back on the scene and is trying to get clients; then we get to the real crux of the story and what follows after, has you guessing first one is to blame and then someone else but the end is something completely different!

There is a team of people in this book who all have different abilities and characteristics and I can not say that I loathed any of them.  They all brought their own individuality to the part they played within the satory.

I love crime novels and this one is no exception. We have murder, we have files going missing and lots more intricate stuff that unless you can really understand the crime system of courts and lawyers etc, especially as this is set in the United States, then you, like me will have had to have watched lots of NCIS or other such programmes to see and understand the system.

This is a fabulous read and recommend it to all crime fans everywhere.
