Synopsis

Who wouldn't want to star in the world's greatest romance? Your dream's come true. Your school's doing "Romeo and Juliet" and you get the starring role of Juliet. Perfect! There's just one catch: the boy you hate is playing Romeo. He isn't any old enemy - your families are at daggers drawn. A bit like in Romeo and Juliet ...except there's no way you're going to fall for him...

Review

It's been many years since I've read any teenage romance books. I can't really remember what they were about but assume they were in a similar vane to Rachael Wing's Star Crossed.

This is her first book and is about a girl who ends up playing Juliet in the school play opposite a Romeo both she and her family dislike. The obvious happens and they both fall in love. This is probably exactly the kind of book that pre-teen/early teenage girls would love.

It reads a bit like a girl's daydream rather than being a story you could imagine happening, but that's just me looking at it from an adult point of view, not a pre-teen excited by her first ideas of romance. Likewise I found the writing style a bit frustrating as she would always have the character speaking about herself as ‘you', so she would say "you shoot a piercing look at your best friend, your voice shaking" instead of "I shot a piercing look" and "my voice was shaking", but someone much younger wouldn't notice this and would just enjoy the book as a good read. I thought the story of the two fathers that ran alongside the main story was very good and gave the book a lot more interest for me.
