Review

I have actually knitted two of these shawls - one I nearly finished and then undid because I didn't like my colour scheme! Mad I know!! The other is in a very mellow orange that my friend wears as the colder mornings keep us wrapped up.

This book may be small with only 64 pages, but my goodness it is packed from stem to stern, with an incredible amount of information of how these shawls came into being, and how they saved many a Shetland woman and her family from starvation back in the 19th Century.

Sharon Miller doesn't just give you the information and maths on how to design the shawls, but goes ahead and gives you some patterns with charts to get the feel and encouragement of how to do it. It is well illustrated with pictures of a by gone past and also of how the modern lace knitting looks in modern Shetland or fine mohairs yarns.

I highly recommend this book for all knitters - especially those who are interested in lace knitting.
