Review

There are many books out there on Self Compassion, but none I truly as indepth as Dr Kristin Neff's is. I wondered how hard could it be, to be compassionate to ourselves - it actually turns out to be quite hard indeed. We actually love to beat ourselves up at the first available opportunity, and that's because we are so competitive in this day and age, and with the extra adage of trying to be over and above perfect, no wonder we have difficulty here!

What Dr Neff does in her book, and with a background of 10 years worth of research and discovery, is to draw us in with well thought out information, anecdotes and meditations (which can be downloaded from her website). Dr Neff also puts in her own personal experiences, especially when dealing with Rowan her autistic son (The Horse Boy). But above all she tells us that it's O.K. to be normal and average.

Would we be so hard on friends, family or the stranger on the street as we are on ourselves - the answer is a resounding NO. She gives us superb reasons as to why we should be compassionate to ourselves.

An excellent book that is streets ahead of similar books, and her audio meditaitions are brilliant - with time and space inbetween each part of the meditation to allow us to properly relax and start the self compassion process.

A book I highly recommend.
