Maeve Binchy is one of today's most successful and best-loved authors. Her audiobooks have followed with the same success as the books. All are read by her cousin Kate Binchy. Here are three of her best-selling titles in a fabulous box set: Scarlet Feather, Tara Road and Evening Class.
Review
SCARLET FEATHER is the story of two people - Cathy Scarlett and Tom Feather who have decieded to create the best catering company in Dublin. They've found the premises, they've got talent and even a few contacts but not everyone is as pleased as they are and
Tom's parents are disappointed that he has turned his back on the family business. His mum is already disapproving of her son's wife Cathy who she thinks should stay at home and look after her husband Neil, she just feels that this is a hobby not a career. Cathy strives to maintain their emotional ties amidst triumps and disasters which at times they are supported - and undermined by Binchy's charactors.
This is a magical tale of love and to all Maeve Binchy fans a great audio CD
TARA ROAD is the story of two people who have never met and their lives have nothing in common.
Ria lives in a ramshackle house in the Tara Road, Dublin which is filled night
and day with the family and friends on who she depends - Marilyn on the other hand lives
in a college town of Connecticut, New England absorbed in her career as an independant
and private woman who is very much her own person.
Two more unlikely friends would be hard to find, yet when a chance phone call brings them together they decide to exchange homes for the summer. Ria goes to America to sort out a huge crisis in her life that is threatening to destroy her. Marilyn goes to Ireland to recover from the tragedy that she has hidden from the world little realising that TARA ROAD, will be the least quiet place on earth.
They borrow each others houses which during the time and course of the magical summer, they find themselves borrowing something of each others lives. This seems to be a story which began with loss and suffering grows into a story of discovery unexpected friendships
and new hopes. By the time Ria and Marilyn eventually meet, they find that they have altered the course of each others lives.
EVENING CLASS is the third book of the Cd Audio Collection. A great listen also. Many say that through reading her books Maeve has always acted as a therapist with her witty literate smalltown tales exude a glow that eases the troubled mind. She has the art to treat all her charactors with empathy and intense affection so that at the end of her book the stories always seem to burgle with joy. OK Magazine says of this story EVENING CLASS that it was "A warm, witty and with deep understanding of what makes us tick , its little wonder that M.Binchy's bewitching stories have become world renown books"
