Synopsis

When Matt is diagnosed with cancer, he and his long term partner, Jamie, gradually come to terms with the illness. With the help of family and friends, they learn to live with the life threatening disease and its consequences.

Precipice explores a potentially melodramic theme - bereavement and recovery - deftly sensitively, and with great conviction. An uplifting story of love lost and found.

The accompanying nine short stories complement Precipice with Mandal's characteristic blend of humour and pathos.

Review

A great book by Jay Mandal beautifully written on a very sensitive subject.

Jay talks on the subject of a gay relationship, and the feelings that the two characters go through when Matt is diagnosed with cancer. People accept that Matt and Jamie have been together for some seven years including both their parents and also their friends.

This story is so well written that I personally feel that it is a book that can be read by anyone, because of the way the story is told, with the real feelings that show so simply and so preciously to those who are involved in same sex relationships.

There are some other short stories at the end of the book that are also beautifully written. Well done to this brave author Jay Mandal for bringing this exceptionally truthful book to our notice and the simplicity of the text and feelings shown within all the stories.
