Survivor, genius, perfumer, killer: this is Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. He is abandoned on the filthy streets of Paris as a child, but grows up to discover he has an extraordinary gift: a sense of smell more powerful than any other human's. Soon, he is creating the most sublime fragrances in all the city. Yet there is one odour he cannot capture. It is exquisite, magical: the scent of a young virgin. And to get it he must kill. And kill. And kill...
Review
me by phone and Fascinating story of a Jean Baptiste Grenouille, born in the 18th Century Paris and abandoned on the street. He discovers he has an extra-ordinary - almost Superhuman - sense of smell.
As he sniffs his way across France, this gift is exploited by Grenouille to make the world's most marvellous perfumes. Yet in seeking the perfection, in his precious perfume that he wants to produce for the world.
The story read by Sean Barrett is so wonderfully read and the characters that he manages to portray are brilliant. The Story runs for approximately 8hrs 30 minutes. Great way to do the weekends washing and housework with a good story playing on your CD player. Because you can multi task and you don't end up sitting watching television instead of getting on with the housework.
A truly unusual and fascinating story, which was a great listen.
