When he was outcast, Torak was the hunted one. The following spring, he becomes the hunter when he swears to avenge the killing of one of his closest friends. To fulfil his oath he must brave the hidden valleys of the Deep Forest, where the clans have reverted to the savagery of an earlier time. Here, Torak finally learns why he is the Sprit Walker and discovers the true cost of revenge.
Review
Oath Breaker is Michelle Paver's fifth book in her series The Ancient Chronicles of Darkness which follows the adventures of Torak, Ren and Wolf set about 6ooo years ago.
EVerytime I sit down to read one of Michelle's books I know I'm in for a darn good read. This time Torak is hell bent on revenge following the death of his best friend Bale - but who committed the murder? Again I found myself being caught up not only in the story but Michelle's brilliant use of language - for instance instead of calling a river by its name she would say 'the great wide' and there are so many examples of this throughout her books which just add to the colour and drama.
But will Torak overcome Bale's killer and what will it mean to the forest people and his adopted clan? It gives much food for thought and shows how much our emotions haven't changed in 6000 years!
I highly recommend Oath Breaker for people of all ages.
