The New International Version is the world's most popular modern English language version of the Bible, acclaimed for its clarity, accuracy and dignity. This elegant recording brings together the distinctive voices of thirteen of Britain's most respected actors and actresses The Old Testament (abridged): Joss Ackland reads Genesis, James Fox reads Exodus to Deuteronomy, Brian Cox reads Joshua to Ruth, Alex Jennings reads 1 and 2 Samuel, Michael Pennington reads Kings and Chronicles, Alec McCowen reads Ezra to Job, Juliet Stevenson and Philip Franks read Psalms to Song of Songs, Robert Powell reads Isaiah, Geoffrey Palmer reads Jeremiah to Ezekiel, Derek Jacobi reads Daniel to Malachi The New Testament (unabridged): Charles Collingwood reads Matthew, Luke, Acts, Galatians, Titus, Philemon, James, Peter and Jude. Rachel Atkins reads Mark, John, Romans, Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, Timothy, Hebrews, 1-3 John and Revelation.
Review
I have never listened to the Bible on cd before and this NIV version is so clear that you can easily go to the relevant chapter and listen. There are some very well known actors doing the reading but my favourites are James Fox with his very warm voice and Juliet Stevenson and Philip Franks who read Psalms - they have beautiful gentle but well modulated voices and I could have listened to them all day. Of course Derek Jacobi being a classical actor makes the reading sound so effortless.
I would recommend this audio cd package to everyone, but dip in and out - find you favourite pieces and rejoice in the words and just relax in what is being said. If you are studying the Bible sometimes it is easier to listen rather than read, especially if you are on the go and like to multi task, but it may stop you in your tracks!Enjoy.
