Synopsis

His hand closed automatically around the fake Horcrux, but in spite of everything, in spite of the dark and twisting path he saw stretching ahead for himself, in spite of the final meeting with Voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermione.' With these words "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" draws to a close. And here, in this seventh and final book, Harry discovers what fate truly has in store for him as he inexorably makes his way to that final meeting with Voldemort. In this thrilling climax to the phenomenally bestselling series, J.K. Rowling will reveal all to her eagerly waiting readers.

Review

I think it's safe to say that this is possibly the most highly anticipated book of all time. For the most part it delivers on all counts, though there were some bit that I got a bit confused with and because we always stay with Harry the narrative sometimes misses out parts of the story that promised to be interesting to experience as a reader but are only referred to.

From start to finish there are so many little moments that really touch, Dudley finally seeing Harry as someone worthy enough to be nice to, Fred's shock at George's injury, Neville's defiance and how truly Dumbledore understood Harry, Ron and Hermione. Every character finally comes into their own and is given a chance to shine.

I admit it, I shed a tear at the end of this book too. The death of Fred was the one that hurt, he was so full of life and humour and it's hard to think of George without Fred by his side. I want to know if George is able to recover from this incredible loss because the book doesn't cover it. It does however let us know that Harry and Ginny do indeed make it as a couple and married with 3 children and his best friends Ron and Hermione are married also with 2 children (I don't know why but Hugo seems like a typically Hermione name to choose). The moment when the latter get together is pure Ron and Hermione, only they would choose the middle of a battle to get together!

Perhaps the most bittersweet aspect of it all is Professor Snape, who we have been groomed to distrust and generally not like. His unending love of Lily Evans (Harry's mother) is all the more heartbreaking when we see his patronus. In the end Severus Snape has the saddest story, an unsung hero who never finds happiness only pain as he attempts to atone for betraying Lily.

I can only say if you haven't read Deathly Hallows yet, then what on Earth have you been doing with yourself!?!
