A child has been stolen...Jade Henderson is missing, taken from her cot. Stella Parfitt watches the police investigation unfold, and begins to ask her own questions. Where was her mother that night? The woods hold a dark secret...
Review
How could a crime be repeated in similar circumstances some 14 years later in a completely different place to where the first child disappeared? This is what baffles the police and drags up so many memories for a family at the other end of the street.
This book is very cleverly written by Anne Cassidy but I found this story so unbelievable that I re-read it to make sure I was not muddling the two crimes up. Anne has you wondering if you can believe what you are reading, and then puts a wonderful sting in the tail for the characters.
Even though I know this is a story of fiction I still felt completely drawn in by the story, and felt great sorrow for the youngster Stella who had looked after the child in the daytime and taken her for walks and played with her in the woods. What she was told after the kidnapping by the police and her mother, must have left her totally distraught. How could one family have been involved in two such cases?
Anne Cassidy has written this book taking the reader on an incredible emotional journey, swinging from one end to the other thoughout the book. I found it a great read and the story definitely has it's twists and turns, and I agree with the Daily Telegraph's comment on the back cover of the book 'That it is a rattling good read'. I can also imagine this being turned in to a film.
