Synopsis

This is a fascinating and interactive guide to the Earth's treasures, with superb illustrations and pop-up wizardry. Children (and adults) are always amazed to discover just how many of the things we use have been taken from the ground beneath our feet, from the building materials of our homes, to the fuels that we burn for energy as well as the chalk, talc and salt that we use every day - and all this before we even go into the minerals from the soil that appear in our vegetables and keep us healthy. Last but not least are the fabulous gems and precious metals that make beautiful jewellery. In this work, discover how minerals were formed, lift the flaps to find out what all sorts of everyday things are made of and open a treasure chest to reveal a spectacular pop-up of glittering gems!

Review

A Brilliant picture book with pop-ups, bits to pull up or down and things to find.  A great additin to any childs collection of books especially as it relates to minerals which make up things all around us in our world.

The pictures are beautifully illustrated and with all the questions posed and answered on the same page even very young children will be fasinated by this book.  The final page which opens with an explosion of brightly coloured paper in the shapes of gems and stones of the natural world made me realise how much my education has missed out - with the way that the diagrams and illustrations make this topic so interesting, that these books that are coming out now will help to stimulate all those young children's minds with a much more interesting way of learning.

Well done a great book to teach about our world.
