The third book in this gritty, sexy, urban fantasy trilogy.
Rogue spirits and psychopomps are terrorising people, and now someone is planning to open the gates to the City of Ghosts and unleash the dead on humanity.
Faced with her greatest challenge yet, Chess has to travel to the spirit city to finally lay all her ghosts to rest...
Review
In the third in instalment of the Downside Ghosts trilogy things go from bad to worse for Chess. The church puts her on a case she cant talk about, with a member of the elite Blacksquad - a do-good, abide by the rules woman who just happens to be the Grand Elders daughter, so Chess has to be on her best behaviour - not her favourite pastime. To make matters worse, it seems like the Lamaru are back and stronger than ever, and Chess is their next target.
In this the third book in the series it does not disappoint, and again it is fast paced and action-packed, with twisting plots and vivid characters. The story carries you along to a dramatic climax that has you desperate to find out what happens, and hoping for a happy ending for Chess for once.
For a first time author, Kane has done incredibly well. She has developed strong characters that you come to feel you know well, and created a good balance between fiction and reality. I look forward to further novels - part of the Downside Ghosts series or otherwise.
