A varied collection of parents' stories about raising children and teenagers with Aspergers. The contributors have bravely written totally honest, deeply moving and sometimes harrowing accounts about what it really feels like to care for a challenging child. The book helps to remove the isolation and guilt felt by so many parents. Embedded within the narratives are their unique ways of coping which may inspire some with new strategies to try. This book will also appeal to relatives, friends and professionals seeking to get a better understanding of Aspergers and the far reaching effect on the family unit

Review
Anna Van Der Post's book 'Children and Teenagers with Aspergers' is extraordinary because it confronts the reality of what it is like living with a child or teenager with Asperger's Syndrome.
Anna has edited the stories of six sets of parents with children of different ages - but all of them have the same theme - the battle they've had to get good care for their child and how it has effected them.
It is a hard hitting extremely moving book that tells it how it really is. How you cope with a child that is different and, to the outside world seemingly appearing to be a bad parent when all the parent is doing is trying their very best to keep on an even keel.
Many of the aspects in this book mirrored my own when I was battling to get good care for my daughter Naomi - but I was lucky - we found the Disabilities Trust. The mothers and fathers in Anna Van Der Post's book are still battling away - but will the recently passed Autism Act 2009 be able to help them. I don't know - Anna has written and article on this very theme called A Cautious Celebration of the Autism Act 2009.
This is a book that should be read by everyone so that more is understood about what these parents and children go through, and in doing so - more support is given in every which way.
