Everyone who came across the strange gym class was looking for something else. What they found was mysterious Mrs Powell with her silent feet and unnerving stare and pashki, a lost art from an age when cats were worshipped as gods. But Ben and Tiffany wonder: who is their eccentric old teacher? What does she really want? And why are they suddenly able to see in the dark? Meanwhile, in London's gloomy streets, human vermin are stirring. Ben and Tiffany may soon be glad of their new gifts. But against men whose cunning is matched only by their unspeakable cruelty, would even nine lives be enough?

Review
Cat Kin is a fantastic children's book that is full of mystery and drama, where children who have joined a 'gym class' run by Mrs Powell soon learn that she is more than different and really quite strange! She starts by teaching the children including Ben and Tiffany the ancient art of 'Pashki' that will give them cat like powers.
It was fun seeing how the children had to build up slowly through practising the moves - a bit like when you first try Tai Chi and Yoga with all the wobbling and laughter that goes with it. But as they got further into their skills the adventure starts to hot up and you really begin to see how their Pashki skills are put to good use. But the question is, is what is Mrs Powell teaching them Pashki for and how do the children play their part in her story.
I enjoyed the way Nick Green built the story up in such a way that we get to know our two main characters Ben and Tiffany very well and how their own personal stories begin to intertwine with each other and then start to involve the other children in the Pashki class. But what happens to Mrs Powell in the end, especially when the children need her the most?
A thoroughly satisfyingly good yarn that I highly recommend.
