Extreme weather threatens the whole of continental Europe, turning the lives of its citizens inside out. The French government calls Professor Mortimer to help solve this enigma. Mortimer travels near Paris to visit his friend Professor Labrousse, the chief French meteorologist. But when the taxi driver Labrousse sent to meet Mortimer at the station disappears, our friend becomes the prime suspect. Mortimer gets in touch with his old friend Blake, also in France, to help him out of this tricky situation. However, Blake disappears as well, so Mortimer and Labrousse have two missing-person cases to investigate. They soon discover that the two disappearances are not only linked to each other, but also to the climatic catastrophes.
Review
This has a style that is so reminiscent to me of Tin Tin. The story is like something of an old 1940's time capsule - it has a charm all of it's own. With gentlemen spies and attempts at world domination through the weather; Arch villains who explain their master-plans just in time for the hero to save the day after figuring out the all-important-clue.
I like that artwork, and I like the story although the script is a little too much sometimes. I find there's a huge difference between English & American comics and their European counterparts. The former has a perfect balance between words and pictures where they often compliment each other whereas the latter, to me, doubles up a lot of the time - An example of this is where the panel caption will describe exactly what the artist has drawn without adding any context or detail. This, to me, is erroneous and detracts sometimes from the flow of the story as I become conscious that I'm actually reading a comic. There are also times where I feel that the panels are far too wordy - especially for the size of the panel itself.
That aside, I did enjoy the story and the concepts were quite interesting - especially when looking out at the window on such a rainy afternoon!!!
