Synopsis

The tragic murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl is well known. Why he was in Karachi; how he saw his role as an international journalist; why he was singled out for kidnapping; and where the incredible search effort led - are the subject of Mariane Pearl's book. A journalist in her own right, Mariane is, as was her husband, profoundly committed to the idea that a more informed public makes for a better world, and to the idea that risks are taken to uncover a story. A superb writer, she presents a truly illuminating tale - including her own crucial role in the investigative team, where she was responsible for negotiating unprecedented cooperation between the FBI and Pakistani intelligence and able to forge alliances with an array of people, from the Karachi chief of police to George Bush. A Mighty Heart is an extraordinary book - a fitting tribute to a dedicated reporter and a profound and heartbreaking love story.

Review

I got my copy of A Mighty Heart and read the whole thing the same day! I would definitely recommend that people read Mariane's book rather than rely on the film that has been made to tell Daniel's story. The story defines the power of the human spirit from the the first line right till the last page,

It has certainly changed many of my views and my knowledge of the ever growing issue of terrorism in todays world and has given me a new found respect for the work journalists do in bringing these stories to us. A Mighty Heart has helped me understand and deeply feel that people can work and  live beside one another despite race, religion and colour.

Although it is the heart felt story of one woman's loss, you can't help but live through Marianne's hope that her husband is still alive. A triumphant mix of religious and political backgrounds with a real human story. The messages of support for the Pearl Family at the back of the book are very moving and a great uplifting way to end a story of courage and human spirit.I would recommend this to everyone.
