Angela Schluter 2008 on Edith Hahn Beer's The Nazi Officer's WifeInterviewAngela Schluter has been a member of my reading group since 2007, but it took a long time for her to tell us all about her mother Edith Hahn Beer, who survived WW2 as one of the Jews left behind in Vienna, when everyone was being shipped of to Poland ostensibly on holiday! Angela tells a fascinating story from both her perspective and that of her mother's and how it effected her upbringing. She is believed to be the only Jew born in a Reich hospital during the war - and as a four year old she has faded memories of flying to England to safety. Her's and her mother Edith's story is one that must be told over and over again so that one day we will learn from the past. Thankyou Angela for telling it. ![]()
