Naomi Seen From a Distance by Vicky

On Wednesday 14th October I went with Debbie to Hollyrood, The Disabilities Trust's Autism Specific Residential home near Lindfield, West sussex, as she hadn't seen Naomi's 'Heaven on Earth'.

Whilst manager Sue Stopa was describing what happens at Hollyrood, Naomi swanned past the window carrying her laundry. Knowing that she could get upset if I didn't take her out to lunch immediately(it was 10am) I chose not to see her but to observe  only. I have to say I felt quite emotional but she looked really pretty with her hair up with a pink flower, but most importantly she looked very happy just doing every day things with her carer. For me it was another confirmation just how fantastic the staff are who look after her are.

She has such a wonderful quality of life now that she didn't have before, that I wonder what would have happened if she'd been diagnosed now in 2007 instead of 2000. Would the money be there to pay for her care in such a specialised environment? This is why I want to raise money for the care of adults with autism, so that others can have the same care and quality of life that Naomi and others at Hollyrood have.
