Disabilities Trust

The Disabilities Trust is a leading national charity providing quality care, rehabilitation and support for people with autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injury and learning disabilities. We offer a range of purpose-built accommodation, community-based housing and other services - all aimed at improving quality of life for people with complex disabilities.

Autism is a complex disability and no two people have the same needs. Our expert, detailed assessment procedure is designed to determine the level of support needed by each person, so that we can tailor our service to meet their needs. We recognise that people with autism spectrum conditions often behave in ways which challenge traditional service provision. Challenging behaviour is often a way of communicating needs, frustration, anxiety or pain. Our staff are trained to manage challenging behaviour by enabling service users to communicate their needs and feelings, and by using non-threatening interventions.

We at The Bookfiend's Kingdom are focusing on the Disabilities Trust's autism side through its range of specialist accommodations (2 main houses, 7 community homes that are autism specific) rehabilitation and personal support programmes, where the Disabilities Trust is making a real difference in helping them lead more fulfilling, independent lives.
