How BFKBooks started

The Bookfiend's Kingdom came into being as a result of my interviewing author Scott Lynch, talking with Jay (a website designer) and drawing on my experience of making programmes for hospital radios nationwide and tutoring university students in the art of good interviewing techniques.

I love to read and meet people and my autistic daughter Naomi (who read voraciously) used to come with me when I did the author interviews for H.O.P.E., the charity I used to run back in the 80s and 90s before she was diagnosed with being on the Autistic Spectrum.

Ideas started to ruminate in my brain as to whether I could return to doing interviews, turning them into podcasts to put on the internet as a way to raise funds for the Disabilities Trust.

Well between David (my husband and audio editor), Jay and Debbie (who loves to organise and catagorise my books, she was diagnosed in 2007 at the age of 56, with A-Typical Asperger's Syndrome) and my ability to communicate with people we felt we could give it a go!

But first we had to think of a name, and being that most of us (including Naomi) loves scifi/fantasy The Bookfiend's Kingdom was born. All we had to do was get it up onto a hosting company! Not at all easy and several mistakes were made before we landed on Wordpress in blog formation. This suited us well in the beginning but as we grew we knew we needed to be on a server and to use properly our domain name of www.bfkbooks.com, which had been bought for me by John and Tammy who firmly believed in our cause to raise funds for the Disabilities Trust for the care for adults with autism.

This is when John our next website designer entered our lives at Chelmsford, were I did an interview with fantasy writer Raymond E.Feist. It was to be another 8 months before I asked him to be our new website designer and then, without saying yes, things suddenly took off and we had bfkbooks.com on the server.

Our primary aim is to raise awarenes and funds for the care of adults with autism by the Disabilities Trust by doing audio book reviews, audio interviews, and giving information on anything to do with the autistic spectrum especially in adults.

How does Scott Lynch fit into all of this - well I was so impressed with his book "The Lies Of Locke Lamora" that I wanted to get it known to the public, and he was my first interview for the website. But I needn't have worried because it's done fantastically well with rave reviews!

So thankyou Scott - we'll meet again someday!

I hope all of you coming onto the website will enjoy what you see and will help us to raise funds to help adults with autism get a quality of life with all the support they and their family so desperately need.

Look forward to seeing you all.
