Flying High with Aero GP!

Wed Jan 21st, 2009

Now this news item has nothing to do with books but, it is to do with my daughter Naomi's love of all aircraft. As a part of her autism she collected just about everything to do with aircraft especially military and used to love going to all the local airshows such as Biggin Hill and Farnham. But now there is a new kid on the block and it's called Aero GP. It has lots of stunts and

disciplines as in the above photo.

Aero GP is a new motorsport series unlike any other, combining three highly difficult sporting disciplines. Each Aero GP consists of the following three events:

1. Air Race – an air race featuring five to six aircraft in the air at the same time, racing against each other around a circuit, often just metres above the ground, in the fastest motorsport in
the world.

2. Air Combat – a demanding discipline where two pilots compete head to head in a battle for air supremacy, trying to score enough hits on their opponent for the victory.

3. Stunts – various stunts are selected, ranging from aerobatics to limbo flying. In Al Ain, the event that has been selected will test the pilots in a real target bombing competition.

For more info go to the Aero GP website www.aero-gp.com. The January 2009 event is being held in Abu Dhabi but the event organisers are hoping to bring it to England this year as well.

But there is also the World Aerobatic Competition at Silverstone Racing Circuit in August 2009 where there will be weeks of wonderful  aerobatics for people to go and watch. Hopefully we will be able to take Naomi to one of the days there.
